Standards-Aligned Diagnostic Test Procedures from Pro-Core
Pro-Core is a web-based assessment and learning tool designed to help teachers prepare students for success on state tests in Reading, Mathematics, Social Studies and Science as well as specific non-state tested subjects. Pro-Core assessments are 99% aligned to the state’s new Learning Standards. They provide high-quality student data to inform instruction, evaluate, and support student learning.
Teachers use Pro-Core assessments to identify student strengths, to promote student growth by analyzing assessment data, to monitor student progress and learning, and to plan, differentiate and modify instruction. Pro-Core helps teachers meet the Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession by assisting teachers in planning and delivering effective instruction that advances the learning of each individual student.
Using Pro-Core: An Instructional Sequence
- Students take the Form A Pre-Test
Students are given a diagnostic test at the beginning of the school year to gather information about students’ prior learning and abilities. Each subject area test takes about 1 to 1½ hours.
- Student Responses scored and Reports generated
The online tests are immediately scored and special diagnostic reports are generated. The reports include teacher class and individual student results which help teachers determine students’ learning needs and performance, so teachers can select and develop appropriate learning activities.
- Students begin work based on Class Rankings
Students start working on individual standards-focused short-cycle web assessments (SCWA) and other activities prescribed by the teacher that align with school and district curriculum priorities and state academic content standards.
- Teachers update class grouping and student Intervention
Teachers analyze short-cycle web assessment data to identify students’ strengths and needs and to modify instruction as needed.
- Students take the Form B Interim Test
Students are given a mid-year formative test to measure individual student and class progress toward curriculum goals. Each subject area test takes about 1 to 1½ hours.
- Teachers adjust instruction based on student learning
Teachers continue to analyze assessment data to identify students’ strengths and needs, and modify instruction accordingly.
- Students take the Form C Post-Test
End-of Course tests are given later in the year to measure student growth, teacher effectiveness, and student readiness for the state tests. Each subject area test takes about 1 to 1½ hours.
The Pro-Core system maintains accurate and complete assessment records and reports as needed for data-based decision making.
