Pro-Core Strategies
Pro-Core is not only a testing system; it is also a learning system. Teachers who make use of the diagnostic reports at the beginning of the year to set individual student and class goals, and then follow up with the online Short Cycle Web Activities (SCWA) will find their students advancing toward the goals set for them.
Effective teachers use the Pro-Core system to learn about their students, to plan and adjust instruction, and to evaluate student learning. Pro-Core activities are 99% aligned to the state’s academic content standards. In particular, teachers use Pro-Core item analysis activities to help students critically examine their responses, which foster their students’ ability to become knowledgeable of how they learn. Pro-Core reports provide students and parents with formative assessment results leading teachers to develop strategies to improve learning and plan effectively. Summative end-of-course assessments show whether students have achieved their goals.
Meeting State Standards for the Teaching Profession
Teachers use the high-quality student data (HQSD) generated from Pro-Core to inform instruction and enhance practice by:
- Critically reflecting upon and analyzing assessment data, using the information as part of an ongoing cycle of support for student learning
- Considering student learning needs and styles, identifying the strengths and weaknesses of an entire class, as well as individual students
- Informing instruction and adapting instruction to meet student needs based upon the information gained from the data analysis
- Measuring student learning (achievement and growth) and progress towards achieving state and local standards
Using Pre-Test Diagnostic Results
For example, teachers administer the Pro-Core diagnostic “Form A” pre-test at the beginning of the school year. The Pro-Core pre-tests contain questions for each learning standard in a subject and grade. Analyzing the results of the pre-test using Pro-Core reports provide teachers with information to plan lessons and group students based on each student’s strengths and weaknesses in each learning standard.
